ASB Moneywise
On Monday morning room 9 had a special guest, Marlon, from ASB Bank. He spoke to the students about how to spend money wisely and how to save money. Marlon taught us that even saving a small amount of money at a time helps to reach the end goal. It was a fun interactive lesson which everyone enjoyed.

Art Display
This week our art was displayed in the school office. As part of our enquiry we are learning about caring for the environment as a way of preserving it for the next generation. We have been learning about recycling and what kind of materials can be recycled. Our lesson for art was around recycling rubbish to create an art piece. Over a week we collected a variety of different packets and containers from students lunches. Students then decided what they wanted to create using the rubbish. They used glue and sellotape to stick the rubbish on. They then used paint to create a background for their focus piece.

Bake Sale Room 9 did some baking in class for the bake sale. Students were able to choose which group they wanted to join and each group had to help bake one of 3 options. The 3 options were rainbow cookies, triple chocolate brownie and chocolate cupcakes.

Each group had to add all the ingredients, mix it and prepare the mixture to go into the oven. We were fortunate enough to have a mini oven in our class so the students were able to monitor the baking as it was cooking.

Links to Literacy Students had to read the ingredients list and instructions on the back of each box. They had to write down what they needed to prepare and cook their kai including equipment such as bowls, spoons etc.

Your Week 2 bloggers from ruma iwa are Tyla and Paige.
During our first week - we had the chance to arrange our
classroom the way we wanted, with help from Whaea Jess & Mrs K.

This activity really pushed us to use our G.I.V.E.S
Everyone had a part to play. Some were moving things about, and
others were on watch to guide where others were putting our
classroom furniture.

We all, in our different ways - demonstrated Guardianship, Integrity, Vigilance, Empathy & Success, and our
beautiful room - now reflects this.

“We helped with our wall displays, and set up
the TV for our learning, and to listen to music” says Paige

As part of our Inquiry & ‘The Garden Party’ book we have been reading in class, Room 9 used recyclable & natural materials to create their crowns.
